When I was ten, I left my family and traveled alone to a new city to study dance. Now, fifteen years later, my journey has taken me from Shanghai to Beijing, then to London. This is my story, but it’s also a common experience for many dancers.
Studying ballet is a lonely path. It requires discipline, strict control over weight, and intense training that few can imagine. Every move and instruction needs hundreds of repetitions. No one can truly help us; we must push ourselves beyond our limits.
From leaving home for dreams, to overcoming technical difficulties, all dancers face loneliness. Through this exhibition, I want to connect with dancers’ inner worlds and show the hard work behind the spotlight.
My audience is mainly dancers and art lovers. I hope students will see that loneliness is not a barrier but a necessary lesson. I’ve also taught adult students who often feel isolated and helpless. They want help but feel alone. As someone who has lived through this, I believe every dancer must face and overcome these challenges alone.
I will tell this story in a chronological way, sharing common moments in dancers’ growth instead of focusing on one person. Through a first-person view, I want the audience to feel different stages of loneliness, empathize, and see themselves in it. I hope this exhibition can connect with colleagues and help ease some of the psychological burdens they carry in their careers.

The exhibition will be held at the Shanghai International Dance Center for three main reasons:
1. Professionalism and Quality:
As a top dance venue in China, it has a high level of professionalism. It hosts well-known dance schools and companies, which match the theme of my exhibition. The center also offers spacious spaces suitable for creation and display.
2. Personal Connection and Resources:
This center is my alma mater, where I studied for seven years. It has been part of my growth. My history with the center gives me an advantage in coordination and support. I can also seek advice from former teachers and use their experience and resources.
3. Timing with "The Light of Chinese Dancers":
In July 2024, the center hosted the "Glory- Chinese Ballet Stars Gala" event, gathering Chinese dancers from around the world. This creates a perfect connection for my exhibition. I plan to hold it within two days before or after this event. The show’s attention and emotions will help attract more visitors and deepen their understanding of the dancers’ feelings.
